Hawthorne Valley one of three winners of Locavore Award
GHENT, NY – Hawthorne Valley Association was named one of the three co-winners at the Fourth Annual Victoria A. Simons Locavore Award on Monday. Along with Josephine Proul of Local 111 in Philmont, NY, and Staron’s Farm and Market in Valatie, NY, Hawthorne Valley accepted the award at the Columbia County Fair.
“We are honored to share this award with all the nominees and winners,” said Martin Ping, Hawthorne Valley executive director. “We consider it a privilege to work in and serve Columbia County and the greater Hudson Valley.”
The locavore award was created in memory of Victoria A. Simons, editor of The Independent and executive director of Columbia County Bounty, to honor organizations, farms, and restaurants that strive to make local food available and accessible in the Chatham, NY area. Other nominees for this year’s recognition were Chatham Real Foods Coop Market, Crossroads Foods Shop and owner David Worth, Nudel Restaurant and Bjorn Somlo, Beth’s Farm Kitchen, the Hudson Farmers’ Market, and the Farm On Foundation and Tessa Edick.
