Hawthorne Valley to host 5K in September

On September 28, 2013, at 9 am Hawthorne Valley will host the first annual Let’s Moove 5K Walk & Run! The event features an off-road trail through fields and gently rolling hills, surrounded by a beautiful vista. The 5K is open to all ages.* All net proceeds will support needs-based scholarships for place-based, hands-on, experiential learning programs.

Place-based Learning at Hawthorne Valley

For 41 years, Hawthorne Valley has welcomed children onto the Farm for quality, farm-based educational experiences that help them connect to the natural world, each other, and themselves. We offer residential and day programs for children of all ages, including on-farm visits, after school programs, school visits, and summer camps through the Farm & Arts Program, the Visiting Students Program and Summer Camps. Our programs seek to engage children of all ages in meaningful agricultural, ecological and culinary experiences both on the farm and in the classroom. Whether cooking a delicious meal with ingredients fresh from the garden, creating a traditional craft, visiting our farm animals, or exploring the fields, forests and streams around the farm, children work, play, and learn together.

As part of our commitment to serve our surrounding communities, we are pleased to offer needs-based financial assistance through the place-based learning scholarship fund. Families and schools are welcome to apply for scholarships to participate in any of our programs.
